Genius Hour v1

In the Fall of 2018 Dayton introduced a class called the Genius Hour to all of its middle school students. In this class, they students worked in two-week sprints to explore areas of interests more deeply. They had to define a topic, then present it to the rest of the class each sprint cycle, using a presentation model called In & Out Demo.

This model worked well to introduce the Agile Learning concept of Learning Cycles and helped students begin to develop new skills and confidence with teamwork, project management, and presentation.

In the 2019 Spring Term, the program was restructured as Genius Hour v2 to find ways to more closely connect this new learning to content from core classes.
