Cartesian Mindset

René Descartes most famous saying was *Ego cogito, ergo sum* which translates to "I think, therefore I am" is thought by some to be the birth of the Age of Enlightment.

This period hoisted our intellect to the throne of our being. It was through this intellect, and the intellect alone, that we had the tools to understand, to make meaning, of our world.

This primacy of the intellect diminished the relative importance of the other parts of our being, the physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions.

This mindset guided the development of our social and political organizations. It also laid the foundation for scientific management, Taylorism, and the corporate organization.
